About Wool Works Warehouse
Denise and Ann Marie McKenna are a sister act with a difference. For over 15 years, they have successfully Co-Managed The Magic Kingdom Crèche, combining their passion for Early Childhood Care with a deep-rooted commitment to their local community. In 2019, Denise expanded her entrepreneurial journey with the launch of Wool Works Warehouse, and most recently, she opened Smart Start Playschool in 2024.
Where does the energy come from?
“I wonder that myself sometimes,” laughs Denise. “But I’m incredibly lucky—I’ve had amazing support from my husband Barry, my sister Ann Marie, and all of my family.”
She adds:
“Our parents, Denis and Margaret McKenna, raised us to be kind, compassionate, and community-focused. That’s something we all carry with us. We’re a close-knit family and giving back to the community is very important to us.”
Wool Works Warehouse first opened its doors in October 2019—just before the world changed. Despite the unprecedented challenges that followed, the shop has grown into a vibrant and valued part of Drogheda’s town centre, serving as a hub for local crafters and creative minds.
From day one, Denise has loved seeing people of all ages rediscover the joy of making—whether it’s picking up a crochet hook, threading a needle, or bringing out the sewing machine. Wool Works is proud to have helped many reconnect with the therapeutic and creative benefits of knitting, crochet, sewing, and crafting.
The shop is a treasure trove of inspiration, stocked with high-quality brands including JC Brett, Cygnet, Sirdar, Stylecraft, and Rico, alongside a wide range of macramé rope, string, and T-shirt yarn—everything you need to get creative.
And it’s not just crafting that’s thriving.
“In a world where we’ve all become more conscious of fast fashion, it just makes sense to alter or upcycle our clothing. It’s not only creative—it’s a step towards a more sustainable lifestyle,” says Denise.
The custom printing department at Wool Works is also going from strength to strength. Whether it’s personalised T-shirts, hoodies, or mugs for special occasions—concerts, hen parties, birthdays, baby showers, or just because—Niall is the creative force behind it all.
While Ann Marie now manages Smart Start Crèche, she remains closely involved with Wool Works Warehouse and regularly pops in—whether for a chat, a coffee, or to see what’s new.
